My name is Jan Heinen and this is my personal website.
First, a few tidbits about myself: I’m the mother of three adult sons who now each have families of their own, and have a real soft spot for cats (though I don’t have any at the moment). I love the outdoors and live in a great place to enjoy it, namely the scenic city of Surrey in southwest British Columbia, Canada. Near Vancouver, this area has rivers, ocean beaches, farmlands and forest trails, as well as plenty of beautiful parks to enjoy.
I’m kind of a bookworm and enjoy travelling to places near and far.
I came across a saying by the great author James M. Barrie (of Peter Pan fame): “those who bring sunshine to the lives of others can not keep it from themselves.” I believe this is true; we reap satisfaction when we help improve the lives of others.
A chiropractor by career, these days I enjoy helping others as a B.E.S.T. practitioner. As well, I work with individuals who have disabilities, and assist in the daily care of my ninety-two year old mother who has dementia and currently lives in a nearby care facility.
While working in these different areas I’ve seen many people struggling with sitting down and rising up from chairs. For the elderly and others with mobility limitations, this simple activity can be truly exhausting. Not only can it be physically difficult but it can be emotionally draining as well. Having to depend on others to help with this every day task can easily take away one’s sense of freedom.
